Dr. Hunter at the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS) 22nd Annual Meeting

NANS 2019 was an extremely exciting meeting.  The future is bright for pain management has newer and better technologies for treating chronic pain continue to be created to give doctor improved tools to offer to our patients and these innovations were all showcased at this year's meeting.  Much of the innovation in the field seems to be centered on finding different and unique ways to manipulate the nervous system to respond in different ways to meet a given need - whether it be Parkinson's Disease, incontinence, tremors, movement disorders, pelvic pain, amputee pain, headaches or neuropathic foot pain. One of the highlights from the conference was something called "closed loop stimulation" by Saluda.  This is a once-in-a-lifetime discovery that allows doctors to communicate with the spinal cord and literally see what it is "saying" to the brain...its basically like an EKG…

First DRG Stimulator Implant in the Country Performed in New York City! On April 8th, 2016, the Ainsworth Institute made medical history: Drs. Hunter and Lee implanted the very first DRG Stimulator in the entire country - right here in New York.  The procedure took record time and the patient was discharged home just a few hours after the procedure was completed. The patient had been living with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) for years after a work-related accident.  Her previous pain doctor implanted her a traditional spinal cord stimulator several years prior which helped control her pain to a modest degree; however she was living with constant pain and had trouble sitting down or even walking.  In 2015, she was referred to the Ainsworth Institute to see if further treatment could be recommended for her.  Luckily, our doctors are part of…

Dr. Hunter Joins the Editorial Staff for the Medical Journal "Neuromodulation"

The International Neuromodulation Society is the world is a non-profit group of clinicians, scientists and engineers dedicated to the scientific development and awareness of neuromodulation - the alteration of nerve activity through the delivery of electrical stimulation or chemical agents to targeted sites of the body. Founded in 1989 and based in San Francisco, CA, the INS educates and promotes the field through meetings, its peer-reviewed journal Neuromodulation: Technology at the Neural Interface, explanatory content, and chapter websites.  Dr. Hunter has just joined the editorial staff where he will be responsible for reviewing manuscripts submitted for publication from around the world.
